Just watched footage of a neighborhood I grew up in, completely destroyed by flooding. Third major flood event there in 5 years. FEMA keeps denying the area federal disaster status. The residents aren't wealthy. They can't just move. And now insurance companies are pulling out of the state entirely. This is a real crisis.

  1. The FEMA disaster declaration process is broken for chronic flood zones. There are advocacy groups working on this specifically. Louisiana Bucket Brigade has been organizing flood-affected communities for years.
