Tried to book a GP appointment today. Next available: August 22nd. For a routine checkup. Not an emergency, but still. If something urgent comes up I'm supposed to go to urgent care which costs 4x more. The primary care system feels like it's designed to fail you.

1. I switched to a direct primary care membership. $80 a month, same-day appointments, no insurance games. It is not for everyone but it solved this exact problem for me.

2. The shortage is real and it is getting worse. Georgia hasn't expanded Medicaid coverage which is driving providers out of the state. It is a policy problem as much as a supply one.
