My son's therapist just closed her practice. She couldn't afford to keep it running. Insurance reimbursements too low, admin overhead too high. He's 15, has been in therapy for 2 years, and we're back to square one trying to find someone who takes his insurance and has availability. Mental health care access in this country is a real problem.

  1. Open Path Collective has reduced-cost therapy for people in exactly this situation. Sliding scale $30 to $80 per session. It is not perfect but it helped us bridge the gap.

  2. The insurance reimbursement problem is driving a lot of providers out of private practice. Therapists can make more outside the insurance system. Until the reimbursement rates improve this will keep happening.
