Has anyone actually used a dental school clinic or one of those discount dental plans? Did it save real money or is it a gimmick? Dentist says I need two crowns, $3,200 out of pocket. My new job is a contract gig with no dental benefits until January, if they even convert me, and I can't wait three months with a cracked molar.

1. ask the office for their cash price too, mine dropped almost 20 percent just by asking

2. Dental school did my crown for about a third of what my regular guy quoted. Took forever, like four long appointments, but it was solid work.

3. Dental school clinic saved me probably 40 percent last year, it just took longer to get an appointment.
