How do you actually tell if a listing photo is real before you drive across town for a tour?

Showed up to see a one bedroom last week because the kitchen had this huge bay window in every pic. Window's not there. Landlord said the listing site enhances photos now and shrugged like that's just how it works. Wasted a Saturday and half a tank of gas on a kitchen that doesn't exist.

Is there anything that actually flags when a listing photo's been touched up before you waste the trip? What would you do?

  1. Enhanced photos. Love a nice euphemism for we lied about the window.

  2. I had a similar experience with a rental two towns over. I now ask the leasing office to confirm by phone which listed features are physically present before scheduling a viewing. Tedious, but it has saved me two wasted trips so far.
