I looked up the numbers today because i wanted to know if it was just me feeling like this year is uniquely bad, and it turns out its not just a feeling. tech layoffs in 2026 have already passed the entire total for 2025, over 125000 people across more than 260 companies as of last week, and thats before you count everything outside of tech. google, zillow, tiktok and etsy all made cuts in the same few days recently. what gets me is how some companies are now specifically saying ai isnt the reason for the cuts, like theyre trying to get ahead of the story, but then in the same breath they talk about spending more on ai infrastructure than ever. it doesnt add up in a way that feels honest. i keep thinking about how easy it is to become a statistic in one of these trackers, just a number added to a spreadsheet somewhere while your actual life falls apart. i dont have advice here, i just wanted to write it down somewhere real

  1. the part about becoming a number on a spreadsheet hit hard

    Anonymous Fox,

  2. appreciate you writing this out, it matches exactly how this year has felt

    Anonymous Eagle,

  3. still relevant two months later honestly, the ai messaging companies use keeps getting more careful and less honest
