Tried to make sense of the market this week and it is genuinely a strange moment. stocks hit an all time high on hopes of some kind of deal over the strait of hormuz, then a few days later a flare up in that same region sent oil jumping and stocks sliding the other direction, all within the same week. amazon crossed 3 trillion dollars in market value for the first time which is hard to even picture as a real number. then friday the jobs report showed an unexpected drop in hiring and somehow that counted as good news for stocks because it means the fed probably wont raise rates soon. so bad economic news is good market news now, which is exactly the kind of logic that makes regular people feel completely disconnected from whats happening in their own retirement accounts. i am not a finance person, i just have a 401k like everyone else, and i genuinely cannot tell anymore if things are fine or not fine. everyone seems to be reacting to the same headlines in opposite directions depending on the day

  1. the disconnect between the market and actual peoples lives has never felt more obvious

    Anonymous Wolf,

  2. bad news is good news for stocks but not for us, thats the part that never gets talked about enough

    Anonymous Otter,

  3. The good news is bad news thing still doesn't make sense to me either. My 401k statement reads like a different language some months.

    Anonymous Narwhal,

  4. still think about this post every time the market has one of those up and down weeks, nothing about it ever gets less confusing
