Has anyone actually managed to negotiate an ER bill down? Went in for what turned out to be a bad stomach bug, in and out in under two hours, and the bill was almost $3,000 after insurance.

  1. call the billing department and ask for the self pay discount, worked for me last year, knocked off almost 40 percent

  2. Same thing happened to me last year. I ended up calling the billing department directly instead of the general line and got somewhere faster. Worth a shot if you haven't tried it.

  3. Trim negotiated my ER bill down about 40 percent. Worth trying before you pay it in full.
