My landlord just handed me a 22% rent increase notice with 30 days to respond. I have two kids in school nearby and moving would uproot everything. I have been a good tenant for four years. Has anyone successfully negotiated with a landlord or found tenant protections that actually work in SF?

  1. Our tenant union helped us push back on a 15% increase and got it down to 5%. Worth reaching out to them.

  2. We went through the same thing last year. Look up your city rent stabilization laws first. In SF there are specific protections depending on when your building was built.
